Frequently Asked Questions
Nadia Boulanger is among the foremost master teachers of music. Influencing many of the world's illustrious composers and performers of the 20th Century, she demanded of all her students a profound mastery of the fundamental crafts of music. The Summer Conducting Program in Paris recreates this unique musicianship training, offering students the rare opportunity to work intensively on these fundamental crafts.
The curriculum, building on Nadia Boulanger's vision, includes private and/or group conducting lessons, analysis classes, choral singing, and options to study counterpoint, keyboard harmony or score reading. The founders, Narcis Bonet and Philip Lasser, and Mark Shapiro, the co-director, and the core faculty, share the vision and the commitment to impart this rich musical tradition to young artists.
Dr. Mark Shapiro, Director Conducting Program.
The Summer Conducting Program is designed for emerging conductors who want to gain mastery of their craft in the context of the EAMA curriculum. We address the musical and technical issues that confront conductors in particular, with a view to honing the skills and nurturing the talents of students who aspire to meaningful professional work.
Advanced students will have opportunities to lead the vocal ensemble, and to develop collaborations with composition students as occasions arise.
